Leave the Lake – Jan 1986

The day I decide, it is time to own my name.

My mother had pressed for a diminutive form to be used. But  that is not mine any more, has not been for a long time.

I sit at my desk, looking out at the  sunset over the industrial mining area in North Rhine Westfalia where I live.

Orange sunset behind the dead mine

toxic or radiant –

silhouette still black

In my mind present, suddenly, two women friends of mine in a boat, on the lake,

one deep and dark,  – the other feisty and playful

– yet I have to leave.
