iatrogenic* amnesia

she does

and does not know

what is cruising through her

veins and brain nor who is dozing

in her

inspired by a not entirely unrelated verse by David B from the skeptic’s kaddish blog, here on wp, yesterday;

the author at the age of 18, in 1972, suffered a brain injury and very gratefully remembers coming out of 10 days of mindless and timeless fog when an enlightened young female Dutch psychiatrist took her off Haloperidol (supposedly introduced to keep her still while her brain was healing from the injury). She has later developed what she calls a healthy skepticism vis-a-vis psychiatric drugs and the way they are prescribed – which served her well as a social worker. –
