Erich Kaestner, children and the war
in whichever reading language we grew up, we may have come across a version of Emil and the Detectives. However, the author considered himself a children’s author for all from 9 to 90. So there is more to explore. David (from the Skeptic’s Kaddish…) reminded me with his new verse from to look him up.
Gehirn ist nichts für kleine Leute. Den Millionären geht es schlecht. Ein neuer Krieg käm’ ihnen recht. So macht den Ärmsten doch die Freude!
Brain is not for little people. Millionaires are poorly, A fresh war would be just the thing.. So go ahead and help them out.
For children you need to write like for adults – only better.
