much more than ketchup

While shopping at the local (German) supermarket, I bump into a young father with his 3-yr old son, engaged in a serious debate in front of the ketchup. I comment to this effect, instinctively in English.

Dad answers in German and immediately carries on the discussion with his son, in Arabic. Eventually dad seems convinced that the little one won’t eat his fries without ketchup, he tells me in German, and puts a bottle in his cart.
