wild rose
no more lethargy?
wild rose* shoots reach
the ivy – and I allow being loved
The back of my buidling looks at the wall of an outbuilding with a small flower bed in front of it. So, 4.5 years ago, when I moved here, I started encouraging a tiny branch of ivy to climb up the wall. Now several arms are hugging the wall where I look out onto it – and the wild rose is very keen. I gave it some handfuls of horse manure left on the fields opposite 3 or 4 years ago, and the wild rose simply burst. It still does, with very little trimming for encouragement. Some branches seemed to be withering last autumn, perhaps due to some pest – but now they are all full of fresh green. I hope I will be too, after years of increasing exhaustion – a faint echo of a dream this morning. And then: “Can I get a word in edgeways, please, I love you too.”
